• Hurricane Relief

    Donations were collected for hurricane disaster relief in Houston and a total of $2800 was used to help 13 different families. A total of $3400 was collected for the disaster relief in Puerto Rico and was distributed to the TS lodge in Puerto Rico.

    We are working to set up a collection of tried and true vegan recipes to help encourage people who want to adopt a plant based diet, but are not sure how to go about it.   • The Dangers of Plastic

    Members of the Salt Lake City Theosophical Society displayed the devastating effect of plastic pollution on the oceans, animal life, and humanity at the University of Utah. Members set up a massive display and spent hours talking to community member of all ages. According to one man, the display provided “a profound, realistic picture that forces us to look at our choices, and the consequences of that choice.”

    The 2017-2018 winter issue of For the Love of Life is available to read for free online. This edition revolves around ethics. The editorial staff would like to thank its readers for all its support. Physical copies are available by request.

When you think of the homeless who do you see? Most of us envision a middle aged man who is either an alcoholic or mentally challenged. Or, perhaps a woman of indeterminate age pushing a grocery cart filled with bags of who knows what. But did you know that most homeless are families? In fact, sixty percent of the homeless are children. This fact I learned while working at Human Solutions, a nonprofit in Portland, OR that helps families prevent homelessness and helps to house those who are already homeless. China Study, Cowspiracy and Peaceable Kingdom by L. Miles Standish

L. Miles Standish, in collaboration with the Theosophical Society in Phoenix, is donating free copies of the book, The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell, PhD, and documentary DVD's, Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, and Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home. These resources address three fundamental but closely related issues: human health, sustainability for life on the planet as we know it, and human stewardship in the form of reverence for life. Hutoxy Contractor (June 21, 1936 – January 27, 2016) by Joseph Gullo

Hutoxy Contractor

We say goodbye to Hutoxy (pronounced Hutsy) Contractor, 79, a stalwart member of the TOS. Hutsy had a B.A. in sociology and anthropology. She and her husband Dinshaw, originally from India, were married in 1958 and continued their ancestral Zoroastrian faith in the United States where they raised five children. Hutsy is survived by her husband, Dinshaw and four children, Rashna, Yasmin, Yazdi and Arnavaz. Sadly, their fifth child, Shernaz died in an accident 1985.
