SUPPORT FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE APRIL 2015 EARTHQUAKE IN NEPAL
Friends and members of the TOS have asked if we are collecting donations for relief work amongst the victims of the April 25 2015 earthquake in Nepal and its aftershocks. The TOS does not have a presence in this country so we suggest that you visit the website of Karuna-Schechen (http://karuna-shechen.org/), a highly respected organization that has been working in Nepal for over 15 years. Its vibrant outreach programme (including mobile medical clinics and camps) is in place in a large number of locations with a team of professionals on the ground fully engaged in helping the victims of this disaster, even reaching very isolated villages.
You can find updates on Karuna-Schechen’s emergency relief work here: http://karuna-shechen.org/news/nepal-earthquake-update/. Its relief efforts consist of:
- Medical aid through its mobile medical clinics
- Distribution of food (rice, lentils, salt, pulse, red kidney beans, biscuits, dalmot, packed noodles, packets of oral rehydration solution, etc.)
- Distribution of relief materials (tarpaulin tents, mats, blankets, soap, etc.)
The organization operates in Nepal and India and has administrative branches in France, USA and Canada. Donations can be made on line in euros, American, Canadian or Hong Kong dollars. Be sure to apply for tax deductions. Every penny received goes to the actual work as Karuna-Shechen’s operating expenses are fully paid by one generous donor!
