Saving Beagles and “the World Entire”
From the Talmud we learn: “whoever saves one life saves the world entire.” Saving precious lives, one by one, is the work of Beagle Freedom Project (BFP), a nonprofit that rescues animals released from animal testing laboratories. TOS-USA is honored to support BFP’s work once again.
In the past, laboratories euthanized animals when they were finished with them without regard to the animal’s age or condition. Now, because of efforts by BFP and similar groups, many laboratories release animals they no longer need to rescue organizations so the animals may live a life they didn’t know was possible—to be a treasured pet, living with loving humans in comfort and safety, complete with toys and treats. In fact, BFP (founded by an animal rights attorney) has gotten legislation passed in several states mandating that labs surrender animals to rescue organizations when they are finished with them.
After an animal is surrendered, veterinarian care is BFP’s top priority. Once returned to a healthy state, animals are fostered until adopted into their forever homes. One precious life at a time is released from a life of confinement, pain, and fear to a life of comfort and love: naps on the couch, walks around the neighborhood, treats, belly rubs, and snuggles. This is why TOS-USA is once again supporting BFP’s work of saving each animal’s life as though they were “saving the world entire.” This work is theosophy in action, and it changes the world for good!
