TOS Annual Appeal Letter
Dear Friend,
Since 1908 the Theosophical Order of Service has helped ease suffering in the world. At this time of year we once again reach out to you for your support.
The TOS is an all-volunteer organization. Every dollar of your donation goes toward the work and is tax exempt.
“The spiritual man must lead a higher life than the life of altruism. He must lead the life of self-identification with all that lives and moves. There is no “other” in this world; we are all one. Each is a separate form, but one Spirit moves and lives in all.” – Annie Besant, founder of the Theosophical Order of Service.
Some of the activities we have been involved in this year are:
Continued fundraising for the Golden Link School/College in Manila, The Philippines. This past year we sent in excess of $40,000 to the school. This year’s donations are earmarked for student scholarships and library books. Over 85% of the school’s students need tuition assistance. A grant from the Kern Foundation matches these donations.
Continued support at the Rosebud Native American reservation. These funds are used to supply children and elders with warm clothing and Holiday gifts. They also provide school supplies and refurbished computers for students.
For the fifth year a scholarship was awarded to a Native American student at the Oglala Lakota College School of Nursing. We hope to continue this scholarship program.
Also for the fifth year, funds were donated to DuPage Pads to assist in providing a safe space for sleeping and meals for the homeless and to Grace Children’s Foundation in NY that assists orphans with their educational and medical needs. A new grant this year went to the Children’s Advocacy Center – Hope House in Covington, LA, a group dedicated to breaking the cycle of child abuse.
Seed money to Groups was used for service projects, such as providing copies of War & the Soul, a Quest book, to veterans’ organizations and paying TSA membership for some prison members.
Seed money is available to help other TSA/TOS groups get started with service projects in their local areas.
The TOS-USA sent funds for disaster relief after the earthquakes in Nepal.
Our Healing Network continues to be a strong focus of activity, receiving calls from around the country. You may call its toll free number at 800-838-2179.
