TOS on the Road
General Topics:
The Theosophical Order of Service is taking the show on the road. All members of the Theosophical Society in America are automatically also members of the Theosophical Order of Service, BUT don’t necessarily know it, and those who do know it may not know what the TOS is currently doing or how they can help. So, we decided to do something to increase the awareness of our members, and others, about who we are, what we do and why we’re doing it.
It all started last summer when TOS board member, Kathy Gann, created a lovely little video clip highlighting our programs that was used as the center piece of our annual TOS report to members at the TSA convention. Then, the TOS-USA Plan of Action was compiled at the International TOS Conference with increasing awareness of the TOS as part of the plan.
The little video clip snowballed into a longer power point presentation including a bit of history, outlining our mission and showing programs and projects currently underway internationally, nationally and locally. Last fall our president, Nancy Secrest, contacted TSA branches and study centers along the west coast offering to share the presentation with members. It was given in Portland, OR and Ojai, CA. TOS treasurer, Betty Bland, also shared the presentation at the Mid-South Federation meeting in April of this year.
Nancy and her husband, Morry, plan to drive through California and Washington State again this fall visiting branches to share this TOS presentation with them. We’ll be at the Orcas Island Study Center in early November as well as the Seattle Lodge. Nancy will be contacting the other Washington groups for November programs and the California groups very soon to make arrangements for programs with those groups in September or October. Group leaders should watch for her email. Plans are underway to expand presentation of our “TOS On The Road” program to groups around the country.
